Hello,
my tool collection is not very extensive, and now I want to buy a drill. Do I necessarily need a hammer drill, or is a normal drill sufficient? I just want to hang a shelf, I’m not doing much more than that. My friend says a man without a hammer drill is not a real man!!

Hello,
if you only occasionally need to drill a hole in the wall, a regular drill will be sufficient. In fact, using a hammer drill can cause more damage than intended, because if the wall is not very sturdy, a hammer drill will create larger holes that you will then have to carefully fill and repair.

Hello,
a drill that can switch modes would be ideal for you, such tools do exist. You can use the regular function to drill small holes in the wall, and when you need more power, you can engage the hammer drill function. I believe this would be the right choice for you!!

Hammer Drill

Hello
I fully agree with Bobo’s opinion. For your purposes, a standard drill would be sufficient, but you never know when you might need to drill somewhere else. For example, if you need to drill a hole in your house wall to install a basketball hoop, you’ll be at a loss with just a regular drill. Also, it’s not advisable to save on tools. Using poor-quality tools is simply frustrating and not enjoyable.
As Bobo already suggested, buy a drill that can do both functions. It’s best to get detailed advice at the hardware store and tell the salesperson that you will only use the hammer drilling function about three times a year. 😉

A drill without a hammer function is not very useful.
