We just had a conversation with our architect that completely blew us away. We are building on flat land where the groundwater is very close to the surface (1.3–2.7 meters (4.3–8.9 feet)). During the construction phase, the groundwater will have to be pumped out. The rectangular footprint of the semi-detached house is approximately 20.9m x 7.5m (68.6 ft x 24.6 ft).

Does anyone have experience with projects of this size? How much should the basement (including lowering the groundwater during the construction phase and any other related costs) roughly cost? $100,000, $150,000, $200,000, $250,000, $300,000...?

Thank you in advance for any spontaneous replies.

In principle, I am in favor of a basement, but with a high groundwater level, I would think twice. Above all, it is essential to ensure a flawless structural design and perfect execution of the basement construction, which can be costly.
