Hello everyone, I am currently digging holes to set fence posts in concrete. So far, it has taken me about 7 hours for 12 holes. These are only about 30cm (12 inches) deep with a diameter of approximately 20cm (8 inches). I still need to dig around 25 more holes. The soil is very clayey and rocky. I removed the top 10cm (4 inches) of topsoil with a spade and then used a hammer and chisel to finish the rest. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could make this easier? I am hesitant to use an earth auger because I’m worried it might damage the bit due to the stones and rocks.

Mix the concrete as strong as possible, pour it into the hole, insert the sleeves, and level them with a spirit level. Do not touch it again until it is mostly dry. That’s exactly what I wanted to say. Once set in solid concrete, they shouldn’t move on their own anymore. Before that, stretch a string to make sure all the sleeves are nicely aligned.S

However, I can imagine preparing a fence panel with two posts ready and then trying to fully set them in concrete. If I install the sleeves without anything else, I’m still concerned that they might shift.

To me, that sounds complicated and like it requires many hands.
@Stefan2.84 Can’t you return the sleeves?
Especially as a one-person job, my method sounds simpler. Maybe less durable, I’m not sure, but definitely easier to handle. As I said, nearly 60 meters from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening with three people. The fence posts are 1.6 meters (5 feet 3 inches) long and are set in concrete to a depth of 50–55 centimeters (20–22 inches).
Doing something like that alone is obviously a bad idea.

Dig the holes, pour in earth-moist concrete, drive the post sleeves directly in, insert the fence posts, then align the posts using string and a spirit level.
Let it cure for one week, then install the fence panels.
If you only align the sleeves, the result will be crooked because the sleeves are not perfectly straight or square.
