I can’t find a suitable section for my question, so I’ll just try here under Flooring — it could also fit under Tiles.

Hello,

We are currently considering how to design the baseboards on the ground floor.

Here is the issue:

In the living/dining area, we will have oak parquet flooring, and in the entrance area, dark tiles (light black/anthracite). Unfortunately, the transition between these two materials is along a wall in the entrance area (not at a corner). See the graphic — the separation of the materials corresponds to the red line (wood = brown and tile = black).

How would you handle the baseboards in the entrance area? Should we use a tiled baseboard or continue with the wooden baseboard from the living area? If you would change the material, exactly where would you place the transition? I can’t quite imagine switching the baseboard type on the same wall.

Thank you very much for your opinions.

Use transition strips; I have them as well. I installed them about 3.5 years ago, and they have held up really well so far.

Just use transition profiles, that’s what I have as well.

I only know those for flooring, not for baseboards.
Could you please post a picture of that?
Then I can get a general idea of how it looks visually.

Thanks

There are aluminum strips like that, and it should work as well. I haven't used them myself yet, but it's an idea I have.

I agree, because I wouldn’t have any other idea either. Otherwise, it wouldn’t look right. With the curved design, it doesn’t look the same immediately, and the room feels different. I can easily imagine that.

That would have been my suggestion as well, to make it curved. Especially with this material transition, it is difficult to find the right baseboard / skirting board. So the advisor from your tile supplier has a good idea.
