Does anyone know where I can buy natural stone slabs in Berlin? There are sometimes large suppliers where you can buy "surplus stock." I am looking for a granite countertop.

Granite can be cut with a wet saw, but depending on the size and thickness of the kitchen slabs, the weight can quickly become too much to handle without a crane. During cutting, the slab also needs to be properly supported, otherwise it can break immediately, so the machine must have an appropriate support surface. This is no longer achievable with a tile cutter, unless you are a hardcore DIY tinkerer.
Best regards
Dirk Grafe Oh, I almost forgot... I will definitely need to rent a machine for cutting. I hope this can be done within a day...
Have you had any experience with this? I found this shop online [link from Dirk Grafe removed, please follow forum rules] Has anyone dealt with them before?
Best regards, again ;-)

Do you have any experience with this? No, I’m not crazy. My slabs still weigh around 150kg (330 lbs) and 200kg (440 lbs) each after cutting, and the original slab probably weighed about 600kg (1,320 lbs). (Weight figures corrected, I measured again and calculated including/excluding cutouts)
I found this shop online [link removed according to forum rules] Has anyone had experience with them? No, but if you use their largest table cutting machine, the maximum cutting length is 720mm (28 inches), so 72cm (28 inches).
I get the impression that you might not be fully aware of how much a granite slab weighs and how much material (discs or saw blades) is consumed during cutting.
Cutting my slabs cost roughly €500 for materials and labor, if I remember correctly.
Looking at your idea, I can only say it was worth every cent.

Deliverer18 Jan 2017 13:59Cutting and fibering yourself is definitely intense. But what hasn’t been mentioned yet is the installation.
This has to be done very precisely. If the slab bends anywhere, cracks will appear after a few months. Joining seams exactly requires a good amount of practice and only works if the edges were prepared accurately beforehand.
Otherwise, it’s worth mentioning: granite is fun! Everything installed flush, no more dirt corners. Huge sinks (also made of granite) for large pots, pans, and cutting boards. You won’t find these from common manufacturers. No worries about hot or sharp objects.
BUT: either choose very colorful granite or natural rough surfaces. Uniform (black) stones with a polished surface will frustrate the homeowner. In that case, like with ceramic cooktops, you have to wipe everything dry...
