Hello everyone,

I am currently working on the heat load calculation and sizing of the underfloor heating system for a new build.
I would like to get a rough estimate in advance of the costs involved.
The project is a house on a slope with a basement, ground floor, and upper floor.
In total, 13 rooms need to be calculated.

Could you please give me a rough idea of the realistic costs for these two calculations?

Thank you very much.

Best regards,
Micha

We actually had a hard time finding an HVAC engineer for this... it probably isn’t really worth it for single-family homes.

In the end, the general contractor handled it together with the heating company, but the result was unsatisfactory.

The outcome for single-family homes tends to be: Bathrooms can’t reach 24°C (75°F) without an additional heat source, underfloor heating needs a closer pipe spacing for large living rooms with many windows, and heating systems range between 5 and 7 kW – where depending on the contractor, there is usually only one brand available, or if you’re lucky, two, and the heaters come in broad size categories. For example, Vaillant offers 5.3 kW and then the next step is 8.7 kW – so even the most precise calculations don’t help much.

Well, just because you didn’t do it correctly and only refer to Vaillant, you don’t have to speak badly about others – that’s something I’ve been seeing a lot lately...

You can get a heating load calculation from various service providers online, and we paid around 200 euros for ours.

This included values for the hydraulic balancing, optimization for a heat pump, and with our desired temperatures. That’s when it really makes a lot of sense...

Hello Sebastian,
yes, that’s exactly how I understood it.
Which provider did you use for the calculation?
Do you need to specify temperatures already in the heat load calculation (HLB), or only when designing the underfloor heating system?
I would like to include the optimization for the heat pump.

Just search for WBS and heating load calculation – that will give you all the information you need.

Ah, okay.
I found it earlier as well.
Thanks.
