Dear forum members,

I am new here and hope I am posting in the right section.

I am planning a new (concrete) garage and would like to create something as impressive and elegant as possible. I imagine a dark poured asphalt floor, painted walls, and especially a large-scale yet energy-efficient ceiling lighting (possibly recessed into the concrete ceiling). My example – which always makes everyone laugh when I mention it – is the Batman garage from The Dark Knight.

Of course, this is probably just a bit of fun and I am not an expert in lighting.

My specific questions are:

a.) Is there an affordable and cost-effective way to achieve something like this? The garage measures 5 x 5.5 meters (16.5 x 18 feet).
b.) Would such lighting typically be installed as a suspended ceiling or embedded directly into the concrete ceiling?
c.) Are there any clever solutions or ideas to implement this without using square LED lights (like those I have found on Amazon or other sites)?

Thank you very much for your help and advice.

Best regards,

If you had been around here longer, you would know: garage prices are currently at a pretty outrageous level even for basic standard garages, and you would have already read some posts about recessed ceiling spotlights (including transformer housings and all that).

Your garage could easily end up costing as much as the Batmobile itself. What exactly do you get in return for this effort, except being a hero to the neighboring kids?

And what kind of DIY work are you capable of?

If you actually go through with this crazy idea: I would also install sensors that use brightness control of the light fixtures to show you when the car is perfectly parked.

The Batmobile doesn’t fit into this short garage at all; you always have to leave the door open and therefore don’t need any lighting…

Then at least install UV lamps, so friends can come for group tanning sessions.

Hello mathi_reg

Build the garage 20cm (8 inches) higher. You should attach LED light strips in the desired color to the garage ceiling. Then lower the ceiling by 15cm (6 inches), using acrylic glass as the ceiling material. Use white transparent acrylic glass. That way, you get the effect. It’s actually quite easy. You can do it yourself with some skill and a little know-how. That way, it won’t be expensive.

And if it should be cheaper and more replaceable, use LED tubes instead of LED light strips. Or simply fluorescent tubes, which are even more affordable than LED.
