We need a new sound system. I bought my current one over 25 years ago, and since then, I have missed all the technical advancements in this area. But slowly, it’s getting annoying to listen to music only from the computer.

Can someone recommend a manufacturer?

I think you’re reading way too much complexity into the whole thing. Someone just wants to listen to music in the living room, and that’s all there is to it. Sometimes it’s fine to just leave it at that.

I recently bought a pair of B&O Beolab 18 active speakers, which are definitely in a higher price range. The difference in sound quality compared to my old Sony speakers is quite significant, though whether it’s worth the price is still up for debate...

At the same time, my dad (61 years old) converted his entire house to Sonos and is very happy with it...

When it comes to choosing a sound system today, I would say there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer—it really depends on your listening habits. If you mainly listen to the radio during the day, I would recommend a Sonos system. If you connect your system to the TV and enjoy movie nights, a mid-range 5.1 system would be a good choice (although even stereo speakers have come very close in quality lately). If you often spend evenings with a book and good music, I would definitely invest in a higher-end system. B&O makes some of the most beautifully designed speakers, but you pay for that. The company Teufel from Berlin also offers a very good price-performance ratio.

There are many good manufacturers, and I would dare say you can’t go wrong with most well-known brands...
