ᐅ Panels warped after storage in KALLAX shelving unit – how to straighten them?

Hello everyone,

I recently stored some vinyl records in my IKEA Kallax shelf, but unfortunately, they warped during storage. These are classic vinyl LPs that developed slight warping due to the narrow compartment size and possibly insufficient stability in the shelf—especially those placed at the very back.

My question is: What methods would you recommend for flattening warped records without damaging the surface or the grooves? Are there specific techniques or tools suitable for cold or warm pressing that work well, or should be avoided? It’s important to me to preserve the sound quality and avoid further damage to the records.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

some swear by heat ... others rely more on pressure over time

Interesting debate. But honestly – why not just accept that panels are meant for stacking, not for bending? Sure, straightening them works differently each time, but anyone who takes the trouble and then continues to store the panels that way is wasting time.

If you’re going to invest properly, I recommend better storage systems that effectively relieve pressure instead of expensively or laboriously trying to fix what’s already been ruined by incorrect storage.

The vinyl layer is sturdy, but not rubber. Warped vinyl is basically a lifelong defect. So why not just store it properly from the start instead of fiddling with tricks later?

Do you have other opinions, or do you also cautiously swear by the “I’ll straighten it again” method? 😉
