Hello everyone,

we are currently planning our single-family home. Specifically, we are working on the design of the bathroom on the upper floor.

The requirements are as follows:
  • Bathtub
  • Double vanity
  • Walk-in shower (whether with a partition wall or glass is still undecided)
  • Toilet not directly visible upon entering
  • 1 floor-to-ceiling window, 1 strip window
  • Knee wall 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in)

I have attached the architect’s first draft, but we don’t like it at all because the toilet is placed very prominently.

So we have already thought about how it could look and played around with some ideas, which I have attached.

Floor plan of a bathroom with bathtub on the left, double vanity on the right, toilet on the left, 14.12 m² (152 sq ft)

We would be interested to hear your opinions or if you have any clever ideas we might not have thought of yet. Our goal is to give our architect useful input.

If I forgot anything, just ask :-)

We look forward to your feedback, thank you very much!

Was it really not possible if the partition wall is roughly positioned and the shower head could be attached to it? As always, not to scale, just a sketch.

Maybe like this?
Although then I would shower facing the door… you’re planning a glass door anyway.

Room floor plan from above: left corner bench, right two boxes marked with x’s, central semicircular shape.

Or like this instead, then you could move the shower slightly forward and use the free area for built-in wardrobes.

Hand-drawn room floor plan: bed on the left, long piece of furniture with circles on the right, free space in the middle.

Hey everyone,

Thanks a lot for the many inspirations. We have put our heads together again and found two options that we really like.

Option 1: (Currently probably our favorite)

Bathroom floor plan: Bathtub on the left, toilet at the bottom, double sink at the bottom, door on the right, 14.12 m² (152 sq ft).

What do you think? The only question here is whether the distance between the toilet and the washbasin is sufficient to avoid feeling “too cramped.”

Option 2:
(And yes, you walk directly towards the toilet here ;-) )

Bathroom floor plan, 14.12 m² (152 sq ft): Bathtub on the left, double sink at the bottom, shower on the right.

What do you think?

Thanks again for all the input.

Cheers

That’s exactly how I would plan it too. Access to the shower from the left (splash guard), if the sloped ceiling cooperates there.
+ Partition wall between the toilet and washbasin.

Why do you think the distance—your marking—is too small? It’s not a passage to anywhere. It’s just an empty space/area…

… which doesn't really make for a very attractive design either.
