Hello everyone, I am currently planning the assembly of the IKEA Platsa system and am taking a closer look at the individual components. My question is specifically for those who already have experience with PLATSA: Are there small parts that tend to get lost frequently during assembly or everyday use? I am thinking in particular of dowels, screws, plastic caps, or perhaps small fittings that often disappear and make later assembly or stability more difficult. I would like to know if there are indeed parts that are prone to being lost, and if so, which ones, as well as whether there are useful precautions or replacement sources. Thanks in advance for your insights and tips!

With PLATSA, small dowels and plastic plugs often get lost. Simply have a bowl ready during assembly to collect everything. You can usually get replacements directly from IKEA customer service.

Regarding the question about small parts that often get lost with IKEA PLATSA, the following can be noted:

- The most commonly lost items are small plastic caps that cover holes and provide a finished look. They are small, lightweight, and can easily go missing when removed for adjustments or repairs.
- Dowels and connecting screws are also prone to being lost, especially when sorting during assembly. I recommend organizing the components into small containers right after unpacking.
- Additionally, metal connectors, such as metal plates used for corner joints, can sometimes disappear unnoticed under furniture or packaging because they are small and inconspicuous.

Tip: Before starting assembly, set up a dedicated workspace with enough room. Use small bowls or dishes to keep all small parts organized. For any replacements, it’s best to contact IKEA customer service first, as spare parts are usually available quickly.

Other than that, there are no systematic quality issues with the parts, but handling requires some care, especially with the small plastic caps.

I basically agree with that, but I would add that some users also see the problem in the fact that IKEA uses quite custom-made small parts for PLATSA. This makes replacement and reordering inconvenient if something gets lost.

That is true, but I would critically point out that customer service is not always equally accessible and delays can occur. Therefore, it is worthwhile to work carefully during assembly to avoid losing parts.

Another interesting aspect is whether the PLATSA system, due to its modularity and comparatively large number of small parts, is generally more prone to losing small components than other furniture ranges. I think so—it could be argued that modular systems always carry a higher risk of “small part loss.”

This is an important point. PLATSA is characterized by high variability and requires many connectors. This does increase the number of small parts that need to be handled during assembly.

Typical parts that tend to get lost or cause issues during assembly are:
- Dowels
- Small plastic caps
- Connecting screws (cam locks)

I would also add that these parts often go missing not only during assembly but also later when reorganizing or disassembling the furniture.

My advice: Anyone buying a PLATSA system should have a small spare set of these small parts ready from the start. This provides peace of mind and prevents stress later on. Replacement parts are generally available from IKEA and, so far, I have always found them easy to obtain.
