ᐅ Are vegetable gardens no longer desired?

Hello everyone!

Yesterday, I marked out the area for our vegetable garden in the yard—about 30sqm (320 sq ft) in total. We’re also adding a greenhouse of around 16sqm (170 sq ft). A small “kitchen garden,” as I would call it.

I got some curious looks from the neighbor, wondering if I’m going fully self-sufficient now.

When I look around new housing developments these days, it’s mostly gravel yards, boxwood shrubs, and solar spheres, while the robotic lawnmower glides over the sterile golf-course-like lawns.

Are there still any enthusiastic gardeners left who quickly dash through the garden before work to pick snails and weed?

I’m a bit sad that I don’t have like-minded people around me. Even my wife is completely opposed to gardening. Such a pity!

Best regards,

My dream is still a cottage garden... but we’re lacking the space for a nice view 😉

Less work is the trend...

But it’s not educational for children. This year, we have strawberries, radishes, and raspberries—all in pots or small garden beds. Next year, we will probably start with vertical gardening. So, it doesn’t work without gardening altogether.

Here, here! During the week, usually only after work, but we have a large vegetable garden. The radishes are already sprouting, the strawberries and currants look great, and the rest should come soon ... now we need to put nets over it, otherwise the birds will eat everything.

Are you sure?
The trend is organic, sustainability, health.

Biohacking, clean eating... Men sit in the office for over 8 hours a day and then have their first stroke between 50 and 60 because, as soon as they get home, they sit down again instead of starting to live properly.

I find these so-called trends very questionable. Who hyped them? Who names them? Who measures them and how? Just before Easter at Penny, a huge pallet of barn eggs, 10 for 1,- sold out quickly. Despite the organic trend, supposedly. Karsten

We also want a kitchen garden :-) and many berry bushes, and the old fruit trees will be preserved as well. The children want beans and strawberries for next year, I’d like to have an herb garden, and my husband wants grapevines. Tomatoes would be great too. So here’s the question: where is the best place to put a greenhouse? Sunny, or would a slightly shaded spot work?

Right now, we are planning the location of the vegetable garden. It should be as sunny as possible, right? And the grapevines will go on the upper part of the slope along the fence. Can they handle wind, or is it better to have them sheltered from the wind?
