ᐅ Are vegetable gardens no longer desired?

Hello everyone!

Yesterday, I marked out the area for our vegetable garden in the yard—about 30sqm (320 sq ft) in total. We’re also adding a greenhouse of around 16sqm (170 sq ft). A small “kitchen garden,” as I would call it.

I got some curious looks from the neighbor, wondering if I’m going fully self-sufficient now.

When I look around new housing developments these days, it’s mostly gravel yards, boxwood shrubs, and solar spheres, while the robotic lawnmower glides over the sterile golf-course-like lawns.

Are there still any enthusiastic gardeners left who quickly dash through the garden before work to pick snails and weed?

I’m a bit sad that I don’t have like-minded people around me. Even my wife is completely opposed to gardening. Such a pity!

Best regards,

Both areas are over 1000 sqm (10,764 sq ft).
Next to the neighbor’s yard, I have space for about 7 shrub trees. According to the nursery, they will grow to around 3 meters (10 feet) tall.
However, the shrub trees would be located on the south side, while the terrace with the play lawn is on the northwest side. The play lawn will also be fenced due to the main road.

That sounds great, on 1000 m² (11,000 sq ft) anything is possible!

The area would be well suited for building a greenhouse, which would also allow for growing some more exotic plants. This could significantly expand the possibilities.

Good idea. Just noting it down mentally.

Apart from the fact that fruit trees are always nice: Does this allergy really affect everything that is commonly referred to as berries? Strawberries, for example, are not berries botanically speaking. Or maybe also kiwi berries (I’m not exactly sure what they are)?

That was also my hope, that strawberries are not botanically true berries. No, they are strawberries, gooseberries, raspberries, blackberries, currants, blueberries.
The chances are good that it will "outgrow" itself in toddlers.
Kiwiberries, no idea. I don’t want to test that so soon. The strawberry was already enough for me last week.
