daniels876 May 2018 13:50Hello everyone!
Yesterday, I marked out the area for our vegetable garden in the yard—about 30sqm (320 sq ft) in total. We’re also adding a greenhouse of around 16sqm (170 sq ft). A small “kitchen garden,” as I would call it.
I got some curious looks from the neighbor, wondering if I’m going fully self-sufficient now.
When I look around new housing developments these days, it’s mostly gravel yards, boxwood shrubs, and solar spheres, while the robotic lawnmower glides over the sterile golf-course-like lawns.
Are there still any enthusiastic gardeners left who quickly dash through the garden before work to pick snails and weed?
I’m a bit sad that I don’t have like-minded people around me. Even my wife is completely opposed to gardening. Such a pity!
Best regards,

I don't have a house or garden yet. But when I do, and if there is enough space, I would like to have my own vegetable garden, herb bed, greenhouse, and even a few chickens. As long as there are no legal or ethical issues, that's fine. Maybe some people want something like this but don't do it because no one else does. My motto: live in a way that makes you happy...
I like gardening stuff.
A raised bed or something like that for radishes, onions, and chives could be possible; I might even try tomatoes again. But not too much... we’re not really big vegetable eaters anyway. Preferably an apple tree and a few strawberries.
But no gabions and no putting greens. Trees as much as possible and grass underneath.

This is how we do it. I handle the heavy work, but she has the green thumb. She comes from an agricultural background, and I’m the child of a craftsman. It complements each other quite well. We’re not planning a real vegetable garden, but it won’t be a desert of stones, rubble, and gravel with occasional plastic plants either. She envisions something like a cottage garden, similar to Emil Nolde’s in Seebüll, but of course smaller. Karsten
