ᐅ Aluminum windows and uPVC (or vinyl) windows on the same house?

CurlyHello,
we are planning to install a sliding window at least 4m (13 feet) long in the living area, and possibly a glazed bay window. The glazing should be at least 2.30m (7 feet 7 inches) high. According to a window manufacturer, the windows need to be aluminum because plastic cannot support windows of that size. Therefore, all other windows in the house should also be aluminum to ensure a consistent appearance. However, another specialist shop told us that it is fine to have the large window units in the living area made of aluminum and the rest of the windows made of plastic. If you choose the same gray color, it would look consistent. Is it acceptable to do it this way, or do aluminum and plastic windows look odd together on the same house?
Best regards,
Sabine

But 2.30m (7 ft 7 in) height is not a problem for plastic... we have 2.42m (7 ft 11 in).

We have been told by two different companies that it is not possible to make plastic windows of this size. They said it wouldn’t be stable enough because a sliding element would then weigh several hundred kilograms (several hundred pounds). I can understand that. The question is whether it is really necessary to make all the house windows out of aluminum. An aluminum window is supposed to cost about twice as much, so that’s quite a difference.

Hello Sabine,
we have both. Plastic (uPVC) windows over 230cm (90 inches) high and an aluminum frame for the windows and sliding door (in a different color, too). No one questioned that with us, and in my opinion, it doesn’t really matter whether it’s aluminum or plastic.
In our apartment, I only realized during the construction phase of the building that one window was plastic instead of wood.
