This was not the case prior to the renovation. The assembly was done exactly according to the instructions, and I have not found any visible damage. However, the installation of the new flooring, which took place at the same time, might have affected the stability or fit of the shelf components. My KALLAX is standing on laminate flooring, and I am fully aware that wooden furniture can produce noises when exposed to changes in climate. Still, the sound seems more frequent and pronounced than usual. Are there any experiences or concrete tips on what to do in such a case? How can I permanently prevent the creaking and cracking?

In my case, the floors were a bit uneven after installation, which caused pressure points at the shelf’s support areas. Try placing small felt pads or thicker spacers under the feet—that can really work wonders and significantly reduce the noise! Good luck, I’m sure you can manage it!
In the described situation, the following can be concluded:
The increased noise from KALLAX shelves after renovation work is often due to changes in the floor surface. Laminate flooring can have uneven areas that disrupt even weight distribution.
This is a plausible cause. A precise solution is to realign the shelf and to use felt pads or special furniture glides under the feet for decoupling.
Additionally, regarding climate fluctuations: slight expansion and the associated noises are normal, but they should not increase over time.
It is also recommended to check and tighten the screws on the KALLAX to minimize movement.

For additional information: After renovation work, the indoor humidity levels may have changed. KALLAX is made of particleboard, which reacts to fluctuations with slight swelling or shrinking, causing noises. Maintaining a consistent indoor humidity between 40-60% can minimize long-term stress. Additionally, filling the shelves with sturdy boxes can help reduce vibrations within the shelving unit.
What I find interesting about this whole matter is that it is basically assumed that the KALLAX is to blame, even though the main conditions have actually changed.
My theory: The shelf only creaks because someone was careless during the floor installation or the wrong underlay was used. The issue isn’t difficult to fix, but people prefer to complain about the product rather than admit craftsmanship errors. :-)
