Hello everyone,
after moving in successfully, I have a question for the group:
What is the purpose of acrylic joints between interior doors and interior walls? Since we did the painting work ourselves, this part is still pending.
Are the joints done just for aesthetic reasons, or are there other reasons as well (e.g., dirt prevention)?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hello,
you probably mean the gap between the door frame cover and the wall. On one hand, acrylic sealant is applied there to even out any irregularities if the wall is slightly uneven, mainly for aesthetic reasons. On the other hand, acrylic is used because it can be painted over. It looks better to apply the acrylic after wallpapering and painting, but this requires some skill.

The painters also did this for us as the very last step.

I don’t know of any new house where acrylic is applied between door frames and walls. Even my previous older house didn’t have it on the old door frames, nor on the ones that had already been replaced.
As @Neige already mentioned, it is used to even out irregularities, which ideally should not be present in a new house. And any joint between these building elements—no matter how wide—looks better left as it is rather than filled with an acrylic seal.

Bauexperte20 Feb 2016 11:36Hello Yvonne,
I wouldn’t want to do without it since our painter applied acrylic sealant several years ago in our private home. It’s admittedly “just” a visual detail (aside from Siggi’s descriptions), but in my opinion, one that is pleasing to the eye
