Hello everyone, I have a rather specific problem: my Malm dresser squeaks repeatedly when opening and closing the drawers, which is really annoying. I suspect it might be due to the drawer slides or mounting points, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone had experience with how to permanently eliminate this squeaking? It is important to me that the furniture is not damaged and that the solution is as simple as possible. Thanks in advance!
Hey Elbar, I know that feeling all too well! The MALM series is great, but the squeaking can be really annoying! 🙂 I simply sprayed some silicone spray on the sliding rails – it fixed the problem for me immediately! It’s important to apply the spray sparingly and directly onto the moving parts; too much can attract dust. Give it a try, it’s really effective if it works :-)
As an additional note: The squeaking in MALM furniture often occurs due to friction on the metal runners or screws that are not tightened enough. The most effective method is to first systematically check all screws on the drawers and sliding parts and tighten them if necessary. After that, it is recommended to lubricate with a suitable product such as silicone spray or Teflon grease, which are specifically designed for metal-to-metal contact. Oily substances should not be used on wooden areas.

I would also recommend properly removing the drawers from the tracks to access all the connections more easily. Especially with MALM, the roller wheels sometimes have plastic sleeves that can wear out. If the rollers become rough, fine sandpaper can help smooth the surface. Afterwards, clean thoroughly before lubricating!

Good day, Elbar! I can only confirm the approach suggested by letar and kulau. It is also important not to use harsh or aggressive cleaners when cleaning the rails, as they could damage the surface. A damp cloth and some mild soap are completely sufficient. For lubricants, I often use a special dry lubricant based on PTFE, which is very dust-repellent and long-lasting. Have you checked whether the rails might already have any cracks or significant wear?
