Hello everyone, I am currently assembling an Ikea Platsa cabinet system and am looking for specific carpentry tips that go beyond the included instructions. My goal is to achieve not only a stable assembly but also one that is precise and visually flawless – I want to avoid any warping of the fronts afterward or misaligned modules. Perhaps you have experience with handling the wood joints, hinges, or wall fixings? I am especially interested in any tricks for a time-saving yet meticulous approach – for example, when aligning the individual components or assembling the internal structure. Thanks in advance for any practical advice!
The most important thing is to work precisely with a spirit level and pencil when installing the wall. It’s better to screw in loosely first and then adjust, rather than tightening everything right away. For assembling the modules, it helps to grease the dowels beforehand – this makes inserting them easier.

And yes, grease the wooden dowels; DIGOREN is right, that makes a huge difference! Also, never screw in blindly; always start with light tension first, then tighten carefully for fine adjustment. This way, you avoid frustrating stresses and the whole wardrobe feels more solid. Good luck, and don’t let yourself get stressed!

I wonder if, from a carpenter’s perspective, it makes sense to also use small shims or special spacers in case the wall isn’t perfectly straight?

Regarding the anchors themselves: what lubricant do you use—regular furniture polish, wax, or rather a special wood grease? I want to avoid anything that might affect the surface later on.
Hey Keo31, I really like how detail-oriented you are! 🙂 My tip: When aligning the modules, use a stable base plate or even a workbench as a support to prevent anything from shifting during screwing.
Also, take your time marking and measuring repeatedly – this is especially worthwhile with PLATSA since the modules can be combined flexibly. Small inaccuracies in my case could be adjusted a bit with mounting adhesive at the joints, especially where the appearance matters.
And don’t forget to regularly adjust the hinges – they allow more play than you might think for perfect front alignment! Good luck and keep it up, it’s going to turn out great!
