Hello everyone, I have a question that has been on my mind for a while and that I would like to discuss with you: Does your KALLAX shelf rest on felt glides or felt pads to protect the floor, and if so, have you really experienced no pressure marks on the felt glides themselves or even on the floor? I’m asking because I recently fitted our KALLAX with felt glides, but after some time I noticed slight impressions on the felt strips and minimal marks on the laminate flooring. Are there any specific recommendations, perhaps certain types or thicknesses of felt that work better? Or does anyone have a different solution that provides long-lasting protection without leaving unsightly pressure marks? Looking forward to your experiences and tips!

Good question! I also use thicker felt glides under my KALLAX. The key is choosing the right type of felt: the standard thin felt pads, which often come included or are cheaply available, tend to compress over time, especially if the shelf is more than lightly loaded. This often results in small indentations or pressure marks in the felt and even slight marks on the floor.

My tip: use felt that is 5 mm (0.2 inches) thick or more, preferably made of wool felt. This type is more elastic and better absorbs pressure. Also, check them regularly – once the felt shows wear, it should be replaced. This is particularly important for laminate flooring since it is very sensitive to pressure.

In short:

1. Thin felt → wears out quickly → pressure marks
2. Higher-quality, thicker wool felt → better protection
3. Regular inspection and replacement

This should help keep both your floors and felt pads in good condition over time.

Hey everyone! I’ve placed my KALLAX on felt pads and I can only say: this is really great! 🙂 No scratching, no marks, and so far no unsightly pressure spots.

The trick is actually quite simple: I glued the pads under the shelf legs, making sure they were applied evenly. This way, the pressure is distributed well. I also went for high-quality felt pads made from wool felt, as RUBEN54 already mentioned – but a bit thicker.

At first, I was worried about inclusions or small unevenness in the floor, but that balanced out well. So: no diagonal installation, no sharp edges – then it works perfectly! Thumbs up for that! 🙂

I can confirm this, I solved it this way for two of my KALLAX shelves. It is also important that no hard objects or crumbs get stuck under the felt gliders – this quickly causes pressure marks and even scratches on the laminate.

A simple procedure:

1. Clean the shelf ends with a damp cloth.
2. Remove dust and crumbs from the floor.
3. Carefully attach the felt gliders.
4. Place the KALLAX gently on top and distribute weight evenly.

This reduces deeper indentations.

Tip: On very soft floors, also protect the shelf with a thin carpet mat underneath – this relieves the gliders and keeps the floor problem-free in the long run.

Hello everyone, I really appreciate your tips and can understand why the issue of pressure marks is important. I personally had the problem that my KALLAX showed pressure marks on the felt pads after a few months – which was quite frustrating because it ruined the otherwise smooth appearance.

At the same time, I wasn’t sure if the problem might be related to the floor surface. My laminate flooring is relatively soft, and it seems the load the shelf carries also plays a role.

That sounds really helpful; I had just stuck the felt pads on somehow without paying much attention, which probably explains the premature wear.

I will do it properly next time and share my experience. Thanks for including me and for the useful advice!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share my two cents on this topic. I have my KALLAX sitting on regular felt pads – but they are quite thin. At first, I thought everything was fine, but after a few months I can tell you: pressure marks actually form – both on the pads and on the (relatively durable) laminate floor.

My tip: If you don’t want to keep buying new felt pads, it’s better to invest in thicker felt underlays right away. You can find them at hardware stores or online in various thicknesses and densities.

That’s true, I almost glued them crooked – which would have made it even worse. 😉

It gets a bit easier and more comfortable if you fix the pads with adhesive – it holds very well and the felt doesn’t shift.
