Good evening,
We are planning to partially build a double garage (6 x 9 meters (20 x 30 feet)) ourselves for our new house. A wooden roof terrace will be constructed over half of the garage.
A friend of mine is a bricklayer and will be building the garage walls, so that should not be a problem.
Now to my question: wood or concrete ceiling?
It should be mentioned that I work in the timber industry and can get the material at a fairly good price.
A concrete ceiling will certainly last forever, but it is significantly more expensive than a wooden ceiling, right?
Suggestions are welcome.
Regards, Tobias

A concrete ceiling is only slightly more expensive than wood – but if you want to insulate it, you’ll need to buy expensive insulation that has a slope.
I was facing the same decision and chose the beam ceiling. We built the masonry on Friday/Saturday with almost the same dimensions.

I have two additional questions:
1. Who is responsible for the structural engineering?
2. Are you allowed to build a terrace on top of the garage? Not every development plan permits this—regardless of setback requirements.
Best regards, Bauexperte
