Hello everyone,

We moved into our new house in January this year. In the living and dining area, we have large double casement windows. One of these windows does not close properly in the area shown in the attached drawing. You can clearly feel a draft, and when our children play outside, you can hear them very clearly. When I press the window against the frame, the noise is noticeably reduced.

The corresponding measurements and details are also shown in the drawing.

The other two windows close properly, so I wanted to ask how or what adjustments I need to make to ensure this window also closes correctly?

Thank you very much in advance.

Regards,

Moved in January? I would contact the builder or contractor right away (depending on who you worked with) to have the defect fixed...

Hello,

I can only agree with Cascada here – you should hire a professional craftsman to check the adjustment.

As a layperson, I would guess that one of the locking pins in the marked area is not functioning properly.

Have you checked with the door open whether all the locking pins are moving?

You should definitely not tamper with the handles, adjustment screws, or similar components yourself. Contact the window manufacturer or, if you hired a general contractor for the house construction, reach out to them and request an on-site appointment or further adjustment of the affected window sash.

It sounds like a simple adjustment issue. HOWEVER – not every window can be adjusted equally at all points of the frame; the question is even whether you have the right “tool” for it. For this reason, and also because the window work is still under warranty, a professional should handle it.
