ᐅ The same tiles throughout the entire ground floor and the bathroom – should we use the same ones in the basement as well?

We have planned tiles throughout the entire ground floor of our new build, similar to the ones in the attached photo. They are called Kermos Stoneline natural beige, sized 30cm by 60cm (12 inches by 24 inches). We have also planned to use them as wall tiles in the bathroom. Now we are considering installing the same tiles throughout the basement as well. Would that be "too much of a good thing"? I would be interested in your opinions and pictures on this.

I would like it if this could be seen from above, do you agree? Then go for it. There’s no need to make it complicated. 🙂
Otherwise, I wouldn’t choose something too similar, as it then looks like we wanted it to be as close as possible but tried to save money. It’s better to intentionally combine something different.

If you look at the basement hallway from above, I would at least use the same tiles there.

So the suggestion would be to use different tiles in a different size?

Or in a different shade, or use different colors for the floor and ceiling.

What color would you consider for tiles in the basement? A natural stone look probably makes sense, white tiles like in slaughterhouses wouldn’t be ideal...

White tiles only look somewhat like slaughterhouse tiles in 15cm x 15cm (6 inches x 6 inches) format; otherwise, in my opinion, they don’t deserve to be associated with that, popularity-wise they’re like Aldi camouflage patterns.

The staircase is open, meaning no boards between the steps (I can’t remember the term),

The term you’re looking for is “risers”—those boards.

In the basement, I would choose dark gray (not anthracite) tiles from the lowest shelf and definitely not spend more than 10 EUR/m² (10 USD/ft²) on them.

But that’s just my opinion.

Me too.

I would rather make the walls in the bathrooms (except the floors) a bit more daring—so, different. Because it can actually become quite boring otherwise.

In the upstairs area, engineered hardwood flooring is planned throughout (3 bedrooms + hallway) and the same tiles as in the bathroom. I’m wondering if, logically and practically, the hallway upstairs should also have tiles. How have you done it?

On the ground floor, we have tiles everywhere except in the living room, which has hardwood flooring. The utility room has vinyl flooring with a wood appearance; personally, I think tiles would have been better there, but we bought the house rather than building it ourselves.
Upstairs, there is carpet, with tiles in the bathroom. The carpet may eventually be replaced with the same hardwood flooring as in the living room.
I prefer to have only two different types of flooring in the whole house. To me, it feels more spacious, calm, and cohesive that way.

Of course, it’s all a matter of personal taste. 🙂
