ᐅ Is it necessary to have LAN cables installed in the garage?

Hello

I wanted to ask what the essential use for a LAN connection in the garage would be?

Our electrician is reluctant to install a Cat cable in the garage.

He is charging twice as much as for a Cat cable inside the house (€500 in the garage) just for a Cat socket.

Why do you absolutely need LAN in the garage?

Wallboxes usually all support Wi-Fi anyway.

We are also planning to install photovoltaic panels later on.

On the Ethernet side, nothing should require a "true" point-to-point connection.

For us, there would have been the option (Zappi Harvey and Zappy HUB for the heat pump)
On Ethernet

Besides that, the company also has a VPN tunnel for the home office, so confidential data is encrypted at least once and not just stored unprotected on the hard drive...

And for online banking, there is two-factor authentication...

Yes, that's true, but then the VPN password is stuck under the keyboard and the token for the 2FA is right next to it 😀
That’s how things work in practice ...

That's everyday practice ...

Then it’s no longer a WLAN issue, but a lack of intrusion protection...
Guess how many people around me have roller shutters and KNX, but no security windows rated RC2 or higher 😀

What do you do if the garage is built later? Just lay the cables outside and leave them exposed? The location is not yet decided.

They don’t help with Ytong either if someone just cuts an opening next to the window with a cold chisel :p :p :p

But only for the plaster layers. For everything underneath, use a damp finger; that makes less noise.

Exactly. Lay the underground cable and leave it long enough to avoid splicing. Just don’t terminate it on a patch panel or connect it to the switch yet.
