Hello everyone,
While we were on vacation, we asked our neighbors to water the plants outside. Unfortunately, they were a bit too thorough and also watered the indoor plants. Apparently, water dripped from the pot onto the hardwood floor for over two weeks. The result can be seen in the picture.
Is there any way to salvage this?
It probably won’t be possible to completely remove the damage, but surely at least the worst of it can be fixed?

Patryk198427 Aug 2022 20:26Thanks for the tip about the oxidation stains; it’s definitely worth a try. Unfortunately, we don’t have any leftover parquet. Otherwise, a runner carpet will be placed on it 😉 I will report back on how it goes.

Do the neighbors have personal liability insurance? That would be a typical case. Then it will be replaced professionally – probably the only way. Any makeshift fix, in my opinion, won’t work.My wife said the same, but a few weeks have already passed since we noticed it. I’d feel a bit awkward going over there now to ask about their insurance.S

Personally, I would still ask politely, as it also depends on the way you communicate. If I were the neighbor, I would immediately use my insurance—that’s what it’s for. I would also feel very uncomfortable and want to cover the costs myself—I would be horrified to find out six months later that something like this was dealt with without my knowledge when it was clearly my fault.
Since some of the wood already seems to be seriously rotted (you definitely can’t call those oxidation stains anymore…), I’m afraid you won’t avoid having to replace the affected boards.

Does no one water the plant until it overflows and maybe even more afterwards?
Is the plant normally not watered?
Does the pot have a drainage hole?
This doesn’t look like it has been going on for 2 or 4 weeks.
In any case, I think there should always be some protection (a mat or those tray things with wheels…) under the pot.
