The attentive user knows that I am not only referring to my gas price increase. See https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/gaspreiserhoehung-zum-1-1-2022.41836/
The switch was successfully completed on 01.01.22 (January 1, 2022). Tomorrow, the direct debit authorization will be signed and sent.
But today we received an email from the old supplier: they are terminating our contract as of 02.12.2031 (December 2, 2031) and stopping the supply immediately.

We hereby terminate the existing gas supply contract between us as of 02.12.2021 (December 2, 2021). On this date, we have stopped the supply of gas.

If you have received a price change from us with effect after 02.12.2021 (December 2, 2021), please consider it invalid.

As you may have seen in the media coverage, we have been facing an unprecedented price explosion at the European energy trading markets for several weeks, caused by an extraordinary combination of various factors.

The situation on the European natural gas market is particularly drastic. Recently, the gas prices for deliveries during the upcoming winter period have spiked by more than 400% on the procurement markets at peak levels.
😱
From now on, we are insured by law... uh... forcibly supplied — basic supply and legally guaranteed.

We are with Polarstern, not Polarstrom.
I would be paying 300€ per month for gas there.

Regional differences are really significant.
With Awattar, I would have paid 150€ more per year than others.

The world is going downhill in style, Kati

We don’t have gas, so I can only comment on electricity. We don’t pay significantly more than we did with our old "green" provider, except that this one is truly sustainable because it’s supported by its own hydropower plant. There are also several other factors (which I can’t list here, but there are countless documents available on sites like Utopia).

With gas, it’s harder to be truly sustainable, since gas is inherently more fossil-based and harmful. And 100% biogas probably costs significantly more.

May I ask approximately how much you pay monthly for your heating electricity,

I’m not exactly sure, but we pay about 185€ (around $200) in total. We decided to use a single meter. However, since we only received our Sunny Home Manager equipment at the end of January 2021, about one month is missing from the bill. If I assume that January’s consumption is roughly the same as December and February, I estimate an annual consumption of 2350 kWh. At a rate of 27.19 cents per kWh, that comes to a monthly cost of about 53.25€ (around $57).

Now some reactions are becoming clear to me…!
Are you also around 140/150 square meters? I have the house in mind… heat insulation thing… air-source heat pump or something similar.

We do have a lot of LEDs, but also halogen lights, TV and computer running… so we pay about €85 (around $92) for our electricity (no heating included) — or maybe €73 (about $79)… one of those numbers is correct. Then our gas costs are below the average consumption of electricity costs for modern heating systems 😱
