The attentive user knows that I am not only referring to my gas price increase. See https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/gaspreiserhoehung-zum-1-1-2022.41836/
The switch was successfully completed on 01.01.22 (January 1, 2022). Tomorrow, the direct debit authorization will be signed and sent.
But today we received an email from the old supplier: they are terminating our contract as of 02.12.2031 (December 2, 2031) and stopping the supply immediately.

We hereby terminate the existing gas supply contract between us as of 02.12.2021 (December 2, 2021). On this date, we have stopped the supply of gas.

If you have received a price change from us with effect after 02.12.2021 (December 2, 2021), please consider it invalid.

As you may have seen in the media coverage, we have been facing an unprecedented price explosion at the European energy trading markets for several weeks, caused by an extraordinary combination of various factors.

The situation on the European natural gas market is particularly drastic. Recently, the gas prices for deliveries during the upcoming winter period have spiked by more than 400% on the procurement markets at peak levels.
😱
From now on, we are insured by law... uh... forcibly supplied — basic supply and legally guaranteed.

P.S. gas.de supplies the gas for Grünwelt as a contracted partner. Since gas.de has gone bankrupt, Grünwelt’s gas customers are now also affected. Grünwelt itself is still fine.

How expensive is the basic supply? Do you know? Is it worth taking the risk now and doing something?

You’ll need to check with your local provider. It varies depending on the area.
I would look into it, especially since the cancellation hit right as the heating season started.

We were with Grünwelt for 5 years – we never had that issue. Everything was fair and consistent.

I’ve used them before, too. In my experience, Grünwelt is a typical brand that tries to rank high on comparison portals through bonus systems. But these bonuses only apply in the first year, and if you don’t cancel on time (or if you only compare the first year for two-year contracts), you might be caught off guard.
Often, if you don’t want to keep switching providers, you can simply turn off the bonuses in the search filters, and surprisingly, many providers have tariffs that are nearly as cheap without all the bonus gimmicks.

Just ask your new supplier if they can bring the start of delivery forward.
That wasn’t possible for me or Vattenfall. I would have had to cancel the new contract and sign a new one.
So now it’s GASAG for a month.

As annoying as it is to temporarily fall back to a basic rate—what are we talking about, 20€? I acknowledge that this amount can be significant for some people’s budgets, but I also believe that few of those are involved in or represented in this housebuilding discussion.

Assuming that the basic supply tariff is about 4 cents above the regular rate, then the amount for this month might be around 10-20€ (euros). That is indeed true.

You’ll have to check with your local utility provider. It varies from place to place.
We experienced this twice with electricity during construction, as each meter change ended the current contract, and we automatically defaulted to the basic supply tariff. But the costs were never excessive.
