Hello,
I recently visited a local fireplace installer to get advice and initial rough pricing for our new build project. I was quite shocked when he said that the smallest panoramic fireplace would cost over €10,000 (about $11,000).

So my question to you: Does anyone know of a good and affordable manufacturer of so-called panoramic fireplaces? Kits are also welcome since the budget, as mentioned, is quite far from the initial offer :/

For those interested, the quote was from Hark.
We are not looking for a fireplace with water heating or other fancy features. It should simply be an "ambient fireplace," so heating capacity and similar factors are not important.

Thanks in advance!

If you want a more cost-effective option, consider a wood-burning stove. You can place them as is or cover them with a surround if you prefer.
Check out e…y or, if used ones are acceptable, the relevant classifieds.
There are new panoramic fireplace inserts from Polish manufacturers priced around 2000 to 3000 euros. However, I can’t vouch for their quality. Otherwise, home improvement stores usually carry relatively small panoramic wood-burning stoves.

You can get them much cheaper there. Polish manufacturers have a good reputation and comply with all regulations. Chimney inspectors have no issues with them.

Has anyone had experience buying wood-burning stoves online? Is it generally straightforward, including the installation?

We visited a local stove fitter to get a quote for a wood-burning stove. The total came to around €7000 (about $7,500) for the stove, delivery, and installation. I already thought that was quite expensive for a "ready-made" stove, which you can probably just buy online.

There are several large online retailers for wood-burning stoves, and their prices seem significantly lower. They also offer installation services for under €300 (about $320). I’m just unsure whether everything really goes smoothly and if the quality is comparable.

Don’t think it’s that simple. Just putting in a fireplace and calling it a day is not what we learned. If it’s supposed to be an "ambient fireplace" and a panoramic one at that, it should probably be fitted with storage stones; otherwise, you risk overheating the room. Three-sided fireplaces naturally give off more heat than two-sided ones. For around €6,000 (about $6,500), you’ll hardly find one, unless you assemble it yourself. Our two-sided one, including installation, shelving, etc., will cost close to €10,000 (about $11,000).

And one more tip: If you’re already short on budget for the fireplace, better skip it. You’ll probably need that €6,000 or so for other things 😎

As mentioned earlier, I would be very cautious about simply installing the fireplace that looks best to me. Glass surfaces release heat quickly into the living area... If you have a sauna or a similar setup, there is only a tiny flame, so you don’t really need a fireplace. I often bring up gas fireplaces because they can be designed to look very stylish, and the flames (heat) can be adjusted as desired.

We used to have a fireplace from Hase, which apparently is still running after 30 years, but even back then it wasn’t cheap. For our house, we have a wood-burning stove from CB-Tech called Momnolith, but that was only affordable secondhand; this is also an option to get a nice, reasonably priced fireplace.

Two weeks ago, we had an H&M wood-burning stove installed in our hallway. It’s an H&M Evo L with an oak base and heat-retaining stones, including a new chimney. The total cost was 4800 EUR all-inclusive.

Modern white wood-burning stove with glass front and burning fire, stainless steel flue, patio door to the garden.
