BenBaumeister25 Jan 2021 17:37Hello dear forum community,
I am currently considering whether it is worthwhile to purchase a pellet stove instead of a conventional wood-burning stove.
The advantage of the pellet stove is that it can be programmed for time and temperature, while the wood stove is cheaper.
Has anyone already had experience with a pellet stove and would like to share it with me? :-)
P.S.
The stove is intended to be installed only as a supplementary heat source in the living room and kitchen.
Many thanks in advance

Should it really provide long-lasting heating support? Then I would choose something with a lot of thermal mass. Otherwise, it heats up quickly but also cools down quickly.
I’m not personally familiar with pellet stoves. But pellets aren’t cheap, are they?
I believe that to save money on heating with a wood stove (excluding purchase costs), you need to buy affordable wood.
That means cutting, splitting, chopping, and drying it yourself for 1 to 2 years.
But that can also be enjoyable 🙂

BenBaumeister26 Jan 2021 19:48Of course, we also have radiators;), so the stove is only meant to provide supplemental heat. Regarding the costs, I checked online once. One ton of pellets in 15 kg (33 lb) bags costs around 270 euros... Wood is probably cheaper.
In my opinion, the advantage of the pellet stove is that it can be programmed.
The flame appearance is also a good point, but apparently there are stoves that can do both!?

hampshire27 Jan 2021 13:49For supplemental heating, a storage system—whether pellet or firewood—is important, as it allows the heat output to the room to be properly regulated, preventing it from becoming too hot or too cold. For quick additional heating, infrared panels are ideal.

daniel1985ffo2 Feb 2021 08:36Five years ago, we renovated a house and heat it exclusively with the pellet stove in the living room.
One ton of pellets, sold in 15 kg (33 lb) bags according to DIN A1+ standard, costs 230 euros on Ebay Classifieds. This amount heats us for one year.
The pellet stove produces a nice flame pattern and automatically starts up to reach the desired temperature. Even my girlfriend says it’s the best decision we made. Exactly one 15 kg (33 lb) bag fits into the stove’s hopper. This lasts for two days in our usage. The stove is set to 22°C (72°F). It turns on at 19°C (66°F) and heats up to 24°C (75°F). Then it waits until the temperature drops again.
We installed the model from Hark.
