Hello everyone,

We have installed Berker’s S1 series in our house. Now we have a toddler crawling around. I’ve used the usual outlet covers for safety, but I find them a bit inconvenient when, for example, you want to plug in the vacuum cleaner. They don’t hold the plug as securely, so it often slips out.

Berker also offers special childproof outlets. Does anyone have those? Do they completely replace the need for these outlet covers? I would like to replace a few outlets if the protection is sufficient. Thanks.

I’m not familiar with the Berker brand offhand. With other models, there is a small flap behind the cover that only opens if both holes are pressed simultaneously. It is very unlikely that a young child could manage this. There are no limitations noticeable during daily use.

It doesn’t matter which manufacturer they are from. They are all the same – as boderpuschl already mentioned. They are sufficient for toddlers.
It actually makes sense to always install them. They only cost a few cents more than regular outlets. And it gives you peace of mind – whether you’re young and might have children in the future, already have kids, or are older and might have grandchildren coming.

Good morning!

The S1 with child protection will be installed here next week, so I will know more then. However, the sockets currently cost only 4-5 EUR each in stores, so if I were you, I would simply order and install one or two to see how well they work for yourself. 🙂

Thanks. That already sounds good.
As I said, I just want to replace a few outlets in the house where the vacuum cleaner is often plugged in. It would be more practical to have outlets with integrated protection there.
I assume the system is similar across the different manufacturers.

We installed the S1 with childproof covers throughout the entire house. As described, a black plastic shield covers the exposed contacts and only opens when both poles are pressed simultaneously. It provides full protection for children and pets. The only downside is that the resistance when plugging in is slightly higher compared to uncovered sockets.

For the adhesive retrofit inserts, you have to twist the plug, which was really annoying for me, especially with sockets located under desks or in other hard-to-reach places.
