Hello
Are there good retrofit smart home systems available?
We bought a semi-detached house as a new build from a developer.
The electrician declined to work with KNX and said he is not familiar with it and won’t do it.
My question is: Are there good retrofit options for smart home systems that don’t require opening up the walls (that is not an option)?
Which systems would you recommend?
Functions:
Light control
Window sensors (preferably invisible)
Shutter control
Music control
Video doorbell
It should definitely be possible to create scenes and rules.
I’m also open to other suggestions for useful functions I may not have thought of yet.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to retrofit our smart home system Well, trying to turn Birkenstocks into Louboutins means not only accepting some imperfection in the result but also putting in a fair amount of effort. I would avoid frustration over the unavoidable suboptimal aspects by switching to a mindset of acceptance and looking ahead—that is, continuing to search for optimal solutions while appreciating that you’ve already progressed one step beyond living in a rental.

The market is clearly moving towards wireless.Yes, but only in the DIY segment. Hue and similar products are like alloy wheels and floor mats that you can buy separately and replace yourself. However, if you want to make any substantial changes, you still need to go to the workshop. And after a few years, you end up throwing that stuff out again because it is hopelessly outdated or worn out.
By the way, the market does not reward retrofitting a V8 biturbo into the Polo – especially if it’s glued in 🙂

My biggest challenge when retrofitting is the window sensors.
Which window sensors can detect the lever position?
For example, if the lift-and-slide door is open but still slid closed, the roller shutter lock should remain activated.
Ideally, they would be battery-free, but that’s not a requirement.

Ideally, they would be battery-free, but that’s not a must. Window sensors are the easiest. Even though I use KNX, I choose wireless window sensors because they are more versatile and cheaper. Hoppe window handles with EnOcean technology is the keyword.
