Hello!
We have a typical Northern German problem – the weather is changing and it’s getting stormy here.
During the summer temperatures today, we set up and used our brand-new ( 🙁 ) cantilever umbrella.
Now, in the evening, we wanted to close it, but when turning the crank counterclockwise, the umbrella doesn’t close; instead, the crank handle comes off in our hand.
It unscrews from the thread.
There was a small screw inside, which we tried to screw back in, but when turning counterclockwise again, it just falls out.
This is our first (and probably last) cantilever umbrella. Can anyone give us quick advice on how to close it without the crank, preferably without damaging it?
I couldn’t find any useful information on Google.
If I leave it open, it will probably end up three properties down tomorrow. 🙁

How much more expensive would an upgrade to something satisfactory be for you? If you first have to buy new tools, and none of you have experience with it, that might not be the most practical option. We plan to install a permanent roof over the terrace connected to the house in about 2-3 years. That’s why the umbrella is only a basic one; I don’t want to spend 500€ on a good one right now.
I am now considering trying the two-component adhesive.

I'm considering trying the two-component adhesive. That is one of the most durable methods! This is how I would do it: the crank doesn't need to be removed in the coming years anyway (why would it, unless for transport), or does the manual mention any maintenance required for the canopy?

I would do it this way—the crank doesn’t need to be removed in the next few years anyway (why else, if not for transport), or is there anything in the manual about maintaining the umbrella? No, not at all. The crank isn’t mentioned in the manual; the umbrella was pre-assembled. Actually, we shouldn’t even be able to see the screw.
I’ll buy a small tube of lubricant then—if that holds, the umbrella would be perfect otherwise.
