Hello dear forum,

unfortunately, we have no experience with curtains.

We would like to start with the children’s room and plan to install floor-length curtains there. I had the idea of pink panels with maybe some white ones behind that would peek through a little.

So, we need a curtain track with two runners.

To make the room feel taller, I would like to mount the track on the ceiling. Or do you think it would be better to mount it on the wall, as high as possible, in case the little one eventually wants to remove the tracks?

Can you recommend any curtain tracks? There are so many options. I’ve been searching online for days. I would prefer modern, very flat and discreet ones.

And what about the gliders and hooks and so on? Do you need the kind of groove that makes it easier to put the curtains on and take them off? I’ve noticed you can choose that.

If the windows are 2m (6.5 ft) wide, how wide should the track be?

I would really appreciate your help.

After that, we will move on to the living room. At first, we didn’t want any curtains there… but somehow something is missing. So we want to add something subtle next to the windows to make it cozier 🙂

Best regards
Ivonne

And how does it work with the gliders and the hooks and so on?
To be honest, it reminds me of my caravan, which had those tracks for the hooked curtains that I ended up replacing.

Since I’m not a fan of curtains but sometimes don’t like complete bareness either, I use scarves from Ikea in the bedroom. I would also recommend something like that for a child’s room. They hang quite high on a rod and rest on the floor. For 2 meters (6.5 feet) width, 2.4 meters (7.9 feet) is tight for the rod. The fabric itself is a total of 3 meters (9.8 feet) for the scarves. If you want regular pleats, you need three times the width. That becomes quite “traditional,” though.
I recommend a rod because it can also serve as a decorative element and doesn’t interfere with the ceiling like those tracks do.

I also think that curtains are a very personal matter of taste.

What I like is when a function is clearly visible as such. The tracks with hooks tend to do the opposite: they "hide" the function (of sliding).

I’m a fan of curtain rods and have wires stretched from wall to wall, on which metal rings slide. These rings have clips at the bottom that can be easily attached and removed (for washing). Nowadays, there are ones that hold well—previously, curtains often slipped off these clips.

It depends on how much space you have above the window. If there is more than 40 cm (16 inches), traditional curtain rods can look good. If it is closer to 20 cm (8 inches), tracks are a better choice. In the children’s room of our apartment, we have a double-track, white aluminum track that is only 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) high, runs from wall to wall, and is hardly noticeable when the curtain is pushed aside.
The curtain rod mounted on the wall in the house was easily pulled out by the little one. 🙂
