I actually don’t like sliding doors. The movement of such a mechanism is much more complicated than a door on regular hinges.

But now, because of my own fault, I’ve installed two of these doors in our house, as they seemed practical to me (and they don’t take up space when open. I’d love them open, but my otherwise much-appreciated wife always closes them in summer anyway :cool 🙂.

The noises they make annoy me, just as I expected but didn’t pay enough attention to. The installed hangers (two different types, both about equally loud) were promoted as especially quiet but do make noticeable sounds.

Now I’m looking for an interior sliding door mechanism that is truly silent, but so far, I haven’t found anything convincing. Somehow the rollers and track need to operate as quietly as possible, and any noise that does occur shouldn’t be transmitted either to the door or to the wall…

Does anyone know of something like that?

Dorma-Kaba offers very quiet systems with soft-close and open functions.
Eclisse is also very quiet, but I believe it is only available for wall pockets.
Completely silent systems do not exist.

Thank you very much for the tips. At first glance, I found the online presentations of both companies a bit confusing, but I guess I have to learn to deal with that....

only wall recess available.
I’m not sure why this difference matters. Both of my doors are mounted in front of a wall but are hidden behind cabinets, so they’re basically recessed... However, I can still access the hinge after installation, which might be the difference. It’s a bit complicated, but it’s possible without re-plastering or repainting.

By "wall-mounted," I meant that the door slides inside the wall. Eclisse are complete frame systems that are built into the wall.
You are looking for a sliding track system that hangs on the wall. From my own experience, I know dorma-kaba for that.

Hello @manohara. Would you be willing to share some pictures of a door and possibly describe the noises? If you can even identify the source, it would be helpful. Then we could systematically try measures such as replacing the bearings, installing rubber dampers, decoupling x from y, and so on...
