Dear House Building Forum Members,

I would like to ask for your experience regarding how long it takes to dry a single-family house of about 180 sqm (1,940 sq ft) with a basement (watertight concrete shell) in summer. The exterior walls are made of sand-lime brick with insulation, lime plaster, and cement screed (14 cm / 5.5 inches). How long after laying the screed can it be dried?

The underfloor heating will possibly only be available about 7 days after the screed is laid.

Would using fans at night with open windows help? What about condensation dryers during the day with windows closed?

What would dry the fastest?

Thanks for any advice and tips.
All the best

Condensation drying. No supply of outside air!

And the question is... in summer?

Kind regards

According to rumors, summer this year falls on a Wednesday 😀

However, 2012 was a leap year, so it shifts by one more day. 😉

Hello,

So far, here in Baden, it has definitely been SUMMER.

The entire heating system (gas boiler plus solar thermal system with vacuum tube collector) will be able to start operating once the screed is laid.

This heating system – and as I have been told, most others – have a so-called "screed mode" or "screed program" that can be helpful during the screed drying process.

Thanks to €URO for pointing out condensation drying. This will take place – although we might not run the energy-intensive devices immediately or continuously. My question is which additional drying method best shortens the normal drying time – even with daytime temperatures above 25°C (77°F) and nighttime temperatures not below 18°C (64°F)?
