Hello,

I built a new house this year and installed a Vaillant Arotherm air source heat pump with Unitower, 11 kW. The entire house has underfloor heating, and each room is equipped with a Busch Jäger room thermostat with a rotary knob. My question is how exactly should the room thermostats be set, and how does the setting on the rotary knob relate to the temperature set on the Unitower?

Thanks in advance for the helpful information :-)

I thought that the thermostats close the valve at the corresponding room temperature for the different levels. Like in the uploaded picture...

Yes, something like that... as mentioned at the beginning, these are more like rough estimates. A deviation of plus or minus 1-2° is quite common.

If you ask around a bit, many even recommend completely disabling the room controllers.

Then the entire house would have the same temperature?

Google “hydraulic balancing”

Good tip. Have you already done that?

Yes, but I still don’t fully understand. I just can’t grasp the connection between the room thermostats with the rotary knob with 6 settings, the adjustments on the tower for the desired temperature, and the flow temperature and outdoor temperature :-)

No, that is exactly the wrong way to think about it.
As I said, please look up hydraulic balancing and the efficiency/operating point of a heat pump.

It is a misconception that a heat pump uses more electricity if it runs all the time. It is actually efficient when the heat pump operates frequently and extensively at a good operating point.
--> That is why hydraulic balancing is done.
