Hello!

Is it possible to plant a espalier tree next to a neighbor’s garage? The garage is built on the property line, is plastered, and quite large. Of course, a wooden framework would need to be installed on our side of the property to support the espalier, and it must stand stable independently of the garage.

Would an apple or pear tree damage the plaster? Would the neighbor have to accept such planting on our side of the boundary?

I would find that unreasonable and would be against it. You would have no right to plant greenery on my garage wall. §1 Everyone mind their own business.

I find it unusual to ask in a forum whether a neighbor has to accept something, instead of simply talking to the neighbor about it first.

I would also be against it, but your neighbor might feel differently

Article 47 Plant Distance from Property Boundaries
(1) The owner of a property may require that on a neighboring property, trees, shrubs, hedges, grapevines, or hop plants are not planted closer than 0.50 m (20 inches) to the boundary of their property, or, if they are over 2 m (6.5 feet) tall, not closer than 2 m (6.5 feet).

It seems to me that self-perception and perception by others differ widely here... but there is a deep suspicion that espalier fruit trees against the neighbor's garage might not be acceptable.
