ᐅ Espalier Fruit Trees Against Neighbor's Garage – Will the Plaster Be Damaged?

Hello!

Is it possible to plant a espalier tree next to a neighbor’s garage? The garage is built on the property line, is plastered, and quite large. Of course, a wooden framework would need to be installed on our side of the property to support the espalier, and it must stand stable independently of the garage.

Would an apple or pear tree damage the plaster? Would the neighbor have to accept such planting on our side of the boundary?

I find it odd to ask in a forum whether a neighbor has to accept something instead of simply talking to the neighbor about it first.

A spontaneous idea from this morning, which even my partner doesn’t know yet ;-)
Before I discuss my idea (which I still find visually great ;-) ), I just wanted to quickly get an assessment of its feasibility.

Article 47: Plant setback distances
(1) The owner of a property can require that trees, shrubs, hedges, grapevines, or hops are not planted closer than 0.50 m (20 inches) to their property boundary, or, if these plants are over 2 m (6.5 feet) tall, not closer than 2 m (6.5 feet) from the boundary.

Thanks, that was all I needed to know.

It seems to me that self-perception and how others see you are quite far apart here... but there is a strong feeling that espalier fruit trees against the neighbor’s garage might not be acceptable.

Nordlys, I know you’re not particularly fond of me, but to talk about perception here...? If you can’t even ask what to look out for without getting such offhand comments, you might as well skip many of the posts here...

Nordlys, I already know you’re not very fond of me, but talking about perception here...? If you can’t even ask what to watch out for without getting those shady comments, then you might as well skip many posts here...

I don’t really know what it is. But our neighbor always asks before planting anything on his huge property, even though he doesn’t have to.

I would consider this wall as a visible backdrop for your espalier fruit trees, but not build directly on it. Leave a distance of 50cm (20 inches) and set your espalier posts in concrete on the left and right sides, and possibly in the middle as well. Then you can train your fruit trees there. The garage wall will indirectly serve as the background – legal and permitted 🙂

For me personally, I wouldn’t mind if my neighbor wanted to plant something there, as long as nothing gets damaged. For ivy, for example, I would then offer him my hedge trimmer (aka chainsaw) every few months for use on OKG+10 m. And I already have the boundary garage; the neighbor first needs to bring topsoil for planting 🙂

With this condition, I would have absolutely no problem with that.
