Hello.
Our plumber referred us to the bathroom showroom, where we put together everything we needed.
Now, looking at the price list and searching online, we see huge price differences.
For example, the toilet with seat from the showroom costs about 700 euros, while on Amazon it’s roughly half that price.
So naturally, we wonder why we shouldn’t just order online, since the markup from the bathroom showroom seems quite extreme—twice the price just feels like too much?!?
What are your experiences with this?
Thank you.

We have actually been through this already. There is profit being made at multiple levels. That’s just the way it is. Manufacturers, wholesalers, and skilled trades as specialized retailers. On the other hand, the showroom needs to be financed. For the tradesperson, it’s the cherry on top of what might otherwise be a tightly budgeted project. The installation is often said not to be rocket science, but it still requires time and certain expertise. Installing vinyl flooring isn’t complicated either, as long as you know how.
My advice is, if your budget allows, buy through the tradesperson including installation. If your budget is tight, start with a standard option, have it installed, then gradually replace it as funds allow with products from home improvement centers or similar. They also arrange installers. Ikea does as well.

Is the search function not working?
Plumbing question: why so expensive, the umpteenth time. Case closed.
I’d say: just buy it from Amazon, but don’t expect your tradesperson to install it or that any warranty applies, or that you get free return shipping.
If you can do it yourself: websites like Heimwerker.de or MyHammer make it possible. Later, after moving in, you’ll find current topics by searching like “shower moves,” “silicone joints cracked, who is liable,” or “why does my house smell so strange.”
Whether you saved money or not, you can tell us in 5 years [emoji4]
Don’t hold it against me: there are plenty here who feel the same as you and don’t trust untrained tradespeople, yet demand everything from them [emoji6] Well, what you get when everything is done by professionals can be seen quite clearly here in the “Defects / Warranty Service” section.
The times when professionals worked professionally seem to be over. It’s no coincidence that EVERYONE here recommends hiring an independent construction supervisor.
@bluminger: If prices really vary as much as you say, buy online and have it installed. Tradespeople who refuse to do it strike me personally as unprofessional.
A good and competent specialist will install everything for you. Of course, they can’t guarantee the nano coating of your toilet! But if it wobbles or leaks anywhere, they will certainly want and be able to fix it. They have a reputation to uphold as well.
Just buy online and that’s that.
Oh dear, we now have to select the samples as well. If necessary, we will have to buy them ourselves, have them installed, and then request a credit.
I understand that the additional charges are very high, but the credits are usually much lower. However, sometimes it’s still worth it.
We’ll see.

Personally, I was quite hesitant to replace a faucet (washing machine). The plumber who installed the expensive equipment came by and did it for 10 euros.
That way, you have a connection.
