Hello everyone,
in another thread, there was a discussion about whether nowadays more people build with or without a basement. I am curious to hear your thoughts.
Best regards

Although a sloped plot does not require creating a dark basement for additional storage space, I wasn’t referring to a dark storage basement; it can certainly be a livable lower ground floor. My point is that you wouldn’t simply build stilts under a ground floor that, on the valley side, is elevated one story above the terrain. Instead, you would construct solid walls beneath it, creating usable space between them—regardless of how that space is used.

(Always good to keep an eye on the thread title!)

Well, is it a cellar or a basement? It is unclear how important this distinction is to the original poster, as elsewhere they refer to a "souterrain" as a high cellar. I believe that in everyday language within the forum community, a basement is often called a cellar, just as a knee wall is called a dwarf wall, or a cross gable is referred to as a dormer.

What I’m curious about is whether those who built without a basement are happy with their decision or if they later regretted it. And conversely, those who built with a basement—are they satisfied, or do they feel in hindsight that it was actually a waste of money?
