ᐅ Detached Garage Attached to House Wall – Plaster or Render?

Hello everyone,

We are currently building with Wienerberger Poroton blocks (T8). According to the planner and general contractor, the prefabricated garage will be placed directly against the house façade without applying plaster beforehand. They say that it is sufficient to properly waterproof the roof area between the garage and the house wall.

Is that really enough, or should the exterior wall also be plastered behind the garage?

Thank you and best regards,
Florian

The prefabricated garage is plastered on all sides.

It’s the same for us. They simply build the walls tightly together. The joint is sealed afterwards. The roof overhang, since it’s a bungalow, also protects the joint from above. I trust that they know what they are doing.

.. or what is commonly called that

Typically, precast concrete garages of the "prefabricated module" type (meaning the garage is delivered in one piece on a low-loader) have a surface texture that blends with plastered areas. This texture can be integrated into the wall itself or applied as a coating—however, it is not comparable to traditional plaster layers about as thick as a finger; the wall is more homogeneous in cross-section.

In the case of precast concrete panel garages (assembled on site from panels), the delivery usually arrives as a raw shell to be plastered on site (with the plaster applied and layered similarly to masonry). Precast concrete garages made from individual wall elements (the rear wall of single garages is typically one piece, with the longer sides consisting of one or two elements) are generally designed like their "prefabricated module" counterparts.

Here it is. A prime example of aesthetics, perfect form, and elegance. And roughcast plastered. Or sprayed with a type of render.

@flospeedy, can you find out why your site manager considers plastering the wall to be incorrect? Incorrect in the sense of not permitted, not unnecessary.
