ᐅ What have you ordered online?

Prices on the internet are often noticeably lower than what you pay, for example, at furniture stores. However, I think some items are not really suitable for online ordering. For example, I am a bit cautious when it comes to sofas because you can't test how they feel for sitting or lying on. Other items like dining tables and matching chairs seem less critical, and lamps are hardly an issue at all. You can always make a wrong choice and then want to return the product.

Do you know any good online furniture stores that are generally customer-friendly, especially when it comes to returns, so that the process is hassle-free?

What are good brands for sofas and dining room furniture? Or how can I know if the quality of dining tables with chairs is right without having seen or touched them beforehand?

I am also interested in ordering flooring and tiles online.

For example, I went to Lutz because it’s just around the corner. I wanted to get an overview.

Lamps – no suitable options for what I needed.
Dining table + chairs – so-so; partly not bad quality, actually quite good, but then also expensive.
Sofas – huge selection, but personal taste and conditions quickly narrow it down to fewer than five options. These are already quite expensive (over/about €2000), but still not exactly what I’m looking for. I would spend over €2000, but then it should really be something I like.

So my impression is that if you don’t want to spend a lot of money and your taste isn’t too unusual or you can be happy with standard items, it’s not a bad furniture store.
I just don’t quite like these standard pieces.
At Lutz, there are furniture options that don’t look so standard, but they are significantly more expensive. For me, this just upsets the price-performance ratio.

Now I could check out Ikea or other large furniture stores. But basically, it’s the same problem as at Lutz.
Then I visited two smaller furniture stores. Prices there are generally about 20% higher.
Some of the pieces were nice and reasonably priced. But if I were to furnish the dining room entirely, meaning dining table + chairs + cabinet + this and that, all matching, I’d be looking at €5000....
Quality costs, and I’m willing to pay for it, but €5000 feels too much.
Also, my dining room is open to the living room, so the two spaces need to match. That doesn’t make things easier for me.

Looking online, the styles I’m interested in are simply more available.
But I’m not quite comfortable buying something without having touched it first...

Then I also have the issue that my dining room is open to the living room. That means both rooms need to coordinate with each other.

However, that doesn’t mean everything has to come from the same range or be made of the same material, color, or style.

I am skeptical about that.

We bought our sofa and armchairs from an estate clearance—an impressive 800 € (about $880) in a vintage style. Surprisingly, they fit very well and are stain-resistant... whether it’s cola, ink, oil pastels, or strawberries—and mind you, they are light beige. Everyone who visits praises how comfortable they are.

What I want to say is that besides new items, there are also used options, and the price really makes a difference.

What we truly bought new online are lamps and illuminated mirrors.

Otherwise, by chance, we found a carpenter for outdoor furniture who makes tables and benches as fillers (kind of half-log style)—also reasonably priced. So it’s definitely worth exploring real craftsmanship.

We ordered our sofa online. However, we were able to try it out in the store beforehand. In general, I wouldn’t buy furniture online without seeing and experiencing it in person first.

In my experience, it’s possible to negotiate significant discounts at furniture stores. For me, all the prices there are list prices (manufacturer’s suggested retail prices).
