Hello everyone,

After seeing several discussions about robotic vacuum cleaners in various threads here, we are increasingly convinced that we want to get one of these devices.

The Vorwerk Kobold VR200 and also the VR100 robotic vacuums, which have been mentioned here multiple times, seem quite expensive to me (749 and 599 euros, respectively).

So I went to the website of my trusted online retailer and searched for "robotic vacuum." Then I selected the robotic vacuum cleaner category: 161 results. Prices ranged from around 75 euros to nearly 900 euros.

One model that caught my eye was the Philips FC8820/01 because it reportedly allows you to point the remote control at dirt if something falls on the floor, and it will vacuum it up.

Does anyone have experience with these devices? Can anyone recommend other models?
Do they always only clean the room where you place them, or do they clean the entire floor (assuming the doors are open)?

My requirements:
  • Initially, only one device for the ground floor, possibly another for the upper floor later.
  • Living area about 92 m² (990 sq ft) on the ground floor, with the largest room about 55 m² (592 sq ft).
  • Charging station (I don’t want to plug the device in manually every time).
  • Good cleaning performance.
  • Not excessively noisy (even though we are mostly not at home).
  • Good price/performance ratio.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I also don’t understand the high praise for Vorwerk. I have two Samsung Navibots – each costing 200 euros (about 220 US dollars) – and I am very satisfied with them. And I already think 200 euros is quite a lot of money.

I didn't praise it highly, but made a comparison. Different situations require different adequate vacuum cleaners. Everyone has to decide for themselves what works for them.

I did not intend to personally attack anyone regarding their own opinions or experiences.

I just noticed that in over 140 messages, almost only the Vorwerk is being praised. Even though there are other top solutions available.

Of course, this does not include the Vileda for 80€ (around 85 USD).

The Vorwerk is probably praised often because it delivers a very good overall performance. However, it is not an inexpensive device, as many of the built-in, admittedly very useful, components (and of course the brand name) simply add to the cost.

Since everyone has their own preferences and expectations regarding what a robot vacuum should offer, there will likely never be a "perfect device" that suits everyone.

I think it is similar to cars. For one person, the comfort and performance of a Porsche Cayenne are worth at least EUR 67,000, while another is happy with their Dacia Duster for at least EUR 10,700...

Therefore, everyone should be free to decide which robot vacuum suits them best.

Best regards,
Dirk

Very well explained, Doc.

I chose Vorwerk because of positive experiences from my grandmother and mother.

I also liked the concept of a 30-day trial period.

Hello everyone,

We received our Robi (Naeto Botvac D85) on Friday (after the post office finally opened) and charged it first. On Saturday morning, we put it to the test with a trial run through our hallway and the living/dining/kitchen area. We actually intended to have breakfast during that time, but we were so fascinated by the device that we almost didn’t get around to it. The 70 m² (750 sq ft) area we let it clean was vacuumed to our satisfaction in about an hour.
On Sunday, we placed it upstairs. At first, we watched closely to see if it would avoid falling down the open staircase. After it handled that well, we were able to enjoy breakfast comfortably while it continued working.

Interim conclusion: So far, very satisfied.

This morning was the first scheduled cleaning. I’m curious to see if everything worked as planned when I get home this evening.
