Hello everyone,
After seeing several discussions about robotic vacuum cleaners in various threads here, we are increasingly convinced that we want to get one of these devices.
The Vorwerk Kobold VR200 and also the VR100 robotic vacuums, which have been mentioned here multiple times, seem quite expensive to me (749 and 599 euros, respectively).
So I went to the website of my trusted online retailer and searched for "robotic vacuum." Then I selected the robotic vacuum cleaner category: 161 results. Prices ranged from around 75 euros to nearly 900 euros.
One model that caught my eye was the Philips FC8820/01 because it reportedly allows you to point the remote control at dirt if something falls on the floor, and it will vacuum it up.
Does anyone have experience with these devices? Can anyone recommend other models?
Do they always only clean the room where you place them, or do they clean the entire floor (assuming the doors are open)?
My requirements:
Thank you very much for your feedback.

My requirements:
- Initially, only one device for the ground floor, possibly another for the upper floor later.
- Living area about 92 m² (990 sq ft) on the ground floor, with the largest room about 55 m² (592 sq ft).
- Charging station (I don’t want to plug the device in manually every time).
- Good cleaning performance.
- Not excessively noisy (even though we are mostly not at home).
- Good price/performance ratio.
Thank you very much for your feedback.
@Bauexperte: Thank you.
Regarding the vacuum cleaner: Moving it from one room to another isn’t really practical if it’s supposed to clean when no one is around.
Our robot vacuum cleans the entire upper floor without any assistance from us.
It also returns to its charging station on its own, no matter where it finished cleaning.
That’s how it should work.

Yes, the suction mop is a handy device.
You clamp a damp cleaning cloth in the middle, suction works in front of and behind the cloth, and the cloth vibrates back and forth in the center, cleaning the floor.
There are different cloths for various floor types and a dosing aid for the appropriate amount of water/cleaning solution.
Regards,
DirkAfter some consideration, we also decided on a "suction-mop" solution in the end. No matter how good robot cleaners have become, mopping still isn't automated, so this step still needs to be done manually. For us, it made sense to buy a "suction mop" instead of a pure vacuum robot, so that vacuuming and mopping are done simultaneously.
Overall, the time saved is not as significant as with a vacuum robot (since you usually vacuum more often than mop), but at least the whole house gets mopped every time and you can indulge your inner perfectionist.
By the way: The Vorwerk you're describing is more like a vacuum cleaner with a wet cloth attached. The vibrating cloth is removed, moistened, and clipped on. When it gets dirty or dry, you have to remove and clean it again (like with traditional mopping). The moisture isn’t absorbed into the floor.
A "proper" suction mop works with continuous water supply from a fresh water tank and immediately sucks up the water (or any spilled liquids) again.
For example, with our model, similar to the Vorwerk, a cleaning cloth is attached to the floor nozzle with Velcro, and a lever on the handle allows fresh water to flow via a channel in the floor nozzle directly onto the cloth.
From the user’s perspective, the suction opening is located in front of the cloth, so when moving the device away from you, it first vacuum-cleans dust, crumbs, etc., and in the same motion mops the floor. When moving it back towards you, it mops again and the suction opening immediately picks up the remaining water, leaving the floor dry.
What I do miss compared to the Vorwerk is the scrubbing motion, which probably removes stubborn stains better. But maybe there will be some developments in the market in the coming years… or you just treat yourself to a professional machine from Kärcher or similar.
What kind of device do you have, @Vanben? Sounds interesting.
Interesting device. Definitely worth considering for the price.
