Hello everyone,

After seeing several discussions about robotic vacuum cleaners in various threads here, we are increasingly convinced that we want to get one of these devices.

The Vorwerk Kobold VR200 and also the VR100 robotic vacuums, which have been mentioned here multiple times, seem quite expensive to me (749 and 599 euros, respectively).

So I went to the website of my trusted online retailer and searched for "robotic vacuum." Then I selected the robotic vacuum cleaner category: 161 results. Prices ranged from around 75 euros to nearly 900 euros.

One model that caught my eye was the Philips FC8820/01 because it reportedly allows you to point the remote control at dirt if something falls on the floor, and it will vacuum it up.

Does anyone have experience with these devices? Can anyone recommend other models?
Do they always only clean the room where you place them, or do they clean the entire floor (assuming the doors are open)?

My requirements:
  • Initially, only one device for the ground floor, possibly another for the upper floor later.
  • Living area about 92 m² (990 sq ft) on the ground floor, with the largest room about 55 m² (592 sq ft).
  • Charging station (I don’t want to plug the device in manually every time).
  • Good cleaning performance.
  • Not excessively noisy (even though we are mostly not at home).
  • Good price/performance ratio.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Since Christmas, the Neato D85 has been cleaning our apartment. Highly recommended. In my opinion, it offers better value for money than the Vorwerk V200 (not tested).

Both should be tested. I think the Neato offers a better price, and its performance might be sufficient (just like not every car needs 200 horsepower).

In my opinion, the Vorwerk also offers a good performance ratio when considering all the adjustments. The lithium-ion battery with larger capacity (longer suction time and longer lifespan) alone is quite valuable. By the way, Vorwerk’s software is set to use only about two-thirds of the battery’s initial capacity, which further extends the lifespan and delays the need for battery replacement. Additionally, due to the absence of a memory effect, it charges faster, and deep discharge is not required by the charging station. In our case, the Vorwerk’s battery charge in eco mode (which is quieter but still powerful enough to pick up all the dirt) is just enough to clean everything once, so recharging and running the vacuum again is not necessary (which wouldn’t be possible with a weaker battery).

Vorwerk also has additional ultrasonic sensors at the front and on the tower bumper, which the Neato lacks, among other features.

There is also a longer warranty, by the way.

I just compared various robot vacuums again and came across the iRobot 780 from Roomba. I hadn’t looked at it in detail before. It has rubber skirts, which seem well suited for hard floors. Its navigation is similar to the VR200 and it’s in the same price range.
Sounds promising at least.
Now I just need to convince my husband about the second bot. He is already very enthusiastic about the Kobold.

Good morning,
after my wife also got tired of the constant vacuuming, we ordered a NAETO Botvac D85 from myRobotCenter over the weekend. We are eagerly waiting for the package.

What actually causes the huge price difference?
Currently, there is a Vileda robot vacuum available for 79.99 at the discount store.

Right now, there’s a Vileda robot vacuum available for 79.99 at a discount store.

Take a look at the reviews for that discount store model. The Vileda device has a chaotic cleaning pattern, meaning it moves around randomly. It often seems to miss corners and other areas of the rooms. Meanwhile, it repeatedly covers some spots and occasionally bumps hard into furniture.
I’m hoping the NAETO will deliver better results. Additionally, its suction power and filter quality are said to be superior.
