Since my budget is quite limited, I have been reading more and more about container homes. What do you think about them? Does anyone here have one? When people hear "container home," most initially think, "Hmm..." but if you look around online (I’ve attached an example image from Google), you can really see some impressive results.
Unfortunately, I don’t know how difficult it is to handle the connections and insulation of these homes, or how durable they are. But if it works out, you could start with a small basic house and then add one or two containers in the garden to work on yourself...
If you also put some effort into the exterior appearance of this type of building, it could become a really nice little house, don’t you think?

Where do I need to inquire to find out if it is allowed to build a container house there? This information is in the development plan... the development plan for the property. Usually, it is already available online on the municipal websites. If not, ask at the building authority.
I understand: a houseboat is not for you (by the way, those have a lot of charm!).
You mentioned that you know an architect. Talk to them about the container house project.
There are entire forums dedicated to the topic of container houses. From buying containers and converting them yourself to turnkey solutions. It’s an interesting subject, and I think it deserves serious consideration. You can probably set something up quite affordably with it. It’s a relatively new method that doesn’t seem bad at all... provided you are willing to lower your expectations, which you mentioned you are.
The building authority is your point of contact regarding where and if you can build something like this in your area. Make an appointment with them and discuss it.
The bank will of course be hesitant... All the more reason to have an architect: you’ll need to present a concept that translates into a finished structure, ready to live in and with a reasonable construction cost/value ratio. That should make it possible. Don’t forget: you’ll also need foundations and connections for utilities (water, electricity, sewage). A slab/foundation is necessary. This will immediately cost 20,000 kg + x (20 tons + x) right away...
As I said: the idea is good, keep pursuing it...
Best regards

Unfortunately not here in North Berlin^^, maybe with some luck a mid-terrace house... but I want something detached. I’ve often had issues with neighbors (singing, playing with the dog, the washing machine spinning after 8 p.m., etc.). I would also take a used property right away... @T21150: I’m following, I’m following^^ I’ve already contacted several companies, but I think hardly anyone was really in the office during the week before Christmas. Now I have to wait and look for more offers.
