Hello everyone, I am currently working on repairs for an Ikea Hemnes furniture piece, specifically a slightly loosened back panel and some drawer slides that no longer operate smoothly. I am particularly interested in which tools have proven to be especially suitable for carrying out these repairs effectively and without causing major damage. Are there any special hand tools or aids that can significantly simplify the process? Tips on disassembly or assembly that can be handled better with the right tools would also be very welcome. Thanks in advance!
I would like to emphasize once again: If you completely remove and reinstall the guide rails, make sure to check their alignment carefully. Even slight misalignments can cause snagging. Sometimes it is better to use new small plastic clips or spacers if the originals are worn out. Having the right tools helps a lot, but a precise setup is essential.
I gladly agree and would like to add that when reassembling the drawer slides, the condition of the rollers is also important. If they do not run smoothly, even the best tools won’t help. A small drop of silicone spray on the joint or the rollers keeps the mechanism running smoothly. Additionally, quiet-running slides can be carefully cleaned with a fine brush to remove dust particles.
Very good advice, thank you. I will focus on 4 and 5 mm (0.16 and 0.20 inch) Allen keys and pay attention to the correct torque if necessary to avoid damage to the wood and screws.
Additionally, I will thoroughly clean the mechanism and, if needed, treat it with silicone spray.
If I discover any unnecessary wear parts, I will look for replacements and repair them specifically. Thanks to everyone who provided such practical and technically accurate answers.
