Hello,

We are planning to install new windows at my parents' house. Now the question arises: Are roller shutters a good option, or would external blinds be better?

What experiences do forum members have with this?

Thank you very much for your replies.

Hi Marcel,

I recommend roller shutters. We also retrofitted our windows and had external roller shutters installed. I am very satisfied with them because they provide good protection against uninvited guests. They also reduce heat loss, so we save on energy costs as well.

Hello,
There are different types of roller shutters available. Usually, the housing box is installed above a door or window. There are recessed roller shutters as well as surface-mounted ones. It is important to consider the local conditions when deciding.

I recommend external roller shutters, also known as add-on roller shutters. This system can be integrated into any window installation. The box and guide rails are either installed within the window reveal or mounted on the wall in front of the window. An advantage is that thermal bridges are avoided here. Retrofitting is also straightforward.

Hello,

We have now had external roller shutters for three years, and I wouldn’t want to miss them anymore. We also faced the choice between roller shutters and blinds. Roller shutters offer better thermal insulation than blinds. So the decision was clear—we chose to have roller shutters installed.

Hello,

We have blinds in the office, and I have to say I like them. The adjustment of the slats is particularly good. Especially in summer, they keep out the heat. However, they are not an effective protection against unwanted visitors.
