I am currently renovating our house from 1970 and need to replace the water pipes. My “gas-water guy” recommends plastic pipes. Other self-proclaimed “experts” say that when choosing pipes, you should consider the water hardness. They also claim that stainless steel or copper pipes are much better than plastic pipes. I am mainly interested in durability and water quality. Which material is the best from these perspectives?
I was also surprised at first when PVC pipes were used in the wastewater system. In the past, I was familiar with drainage pipes made of cast iron or steel. However, plastic pipes have an advantage because their interior is smooth, which prevents buildup. The 20-year warranty is also quite notable, and manufacturers don’t offer that easily.
