ᐅ Preparing for automatic irrigation systems

Hello dear forum,

We spoke with the plumbing company about planning an irrigation system for our garden and asked what preparations might be needed. Unfortunately, they are not very familiar with this (understandable, as they are not landscape gardeners). However, they assume that no special planning is required and that the irrigation can later be connected with a T-piece to the regular outdoor water tap (along with a garden water meter). When I asked whether the pressure would be sufficient, they suggested not reducing or reducing less the pressure for this tap... (at least that’s how I understood it).

These statements seem a bit vague to me, so I’d like to ask you: how did you handle this, and can you confirm their advice?

Best regards!

Sorry, 5400 l/h according to the diagram. According to the diagram, it can even manage about 4500-5000 l/h at 30 m (98 feet). I have the Multi-X Garden X8 submersible pump. I’m not allowed to post links here.

It will then run through the smart home system and the corresponding wireless receivers in the electrical boxes.

Smart home means KNX?
With 5000 liters (1320 gallons), you can also run two (smaller) zones.
This offers many possibilities to set up an effective irrigation system. Very good.

A KNX system was too expensive for me. I have Enocean for the venetian blinds in the house, which I will then extend to the irrigation system. The Enocean weather station will also be installed accordingly.

Now we still need to see what comes of the pump. Do you have a replacement recommendation?

Hello and thank you very much!

I haven’t looked into the details of the irrigation system yet. There is no garden yet... about 300 square meters (approximately 3,230 square feet) will remain from the plot.
We have not planned a cistern. For now, my main focus is to create the right conditions to later be able to supply an irrigation system directly from the tap.

@rick2018 Conduit for electricity? I’ll add it to the list for the electrician.

As I said, I haven’t dealt with the details yet. But I roughly imagined it like in the photo.

Hand operated Gardena irrigation timer on a water tap mounted on a post, hose connected.

The pump you had is very well sized based on the specifications. I can’t tell you whether you have a "Monday model" (a faulty unit) or if the quality is generally not that good. We have already gained good long-term experience with T.I.P. submersible well pumps on similar projects. These are available in various versions at the major river.

@Katdreas
And you really want to supply your irrigation with river water? I once watered my neighbor’s garden and my mother’s garden for 2 hours using the cistern, and it was almost empty afterwards...

Whether you have a "Monday model" (a faulty unit) or if the overall quality is lower, I can’t say.
We have already gained good long-term experience with the T.I.P. deep well pumps on similar projects. They are available in different versions at the big river.

I have a T.I.P. pump hanging in the drainage sump; that would be my alternative now if the pump can’t be saved.
